IWD: Catch-up with Project Engineer Marina

Why did you first study engineering?

I was always technically minded so it was an easy choice for me!

Tell us about your work as Oxbotica’s project lead on the GATEway project?

The GATEway project is an InnovateUK project which aims to understand the behaviour of people with regards to autonomous vehicles. Oxbotica is providing the brain behind the vehicles themselves. The software we provide allows the vehicles to localise and guide itself through the route in addition to detecting obstacles that are on the path.

What does a typical day involve?

Checking with the team that we are all on track with the project, supporting where needed, and communicating with the relevant people in the consortium on our progress. Sometimes I have some space for more technical tasks like helping out in the testing of our autonomous systems which always makes my day.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Dealing with different people and backgrounds. But this is what makes it really interesting too!

What’s the best part of your job?

Being involved at different levels on the technical side is really exciting. It’s really awesome being in a team where there are so many clever people – you are always stimulated to learn and contribute more…
